On "Landscape Photo Hobby. com" we learn that the equipment that William Henry Jackson had available to use to photograph the vast landscapes of the Western United States in 1870 cumbersome, and required fragile, heavy glass plates and had to be coated, exposed and developed onsite with exposure times from 5 seconds to twenty minutes depending on light conditions.
As others followed Jackson they began experimenting with light and exposure in order to photograph nature. Ansel Adams developed a system to analyze correct exposure. Today the digital camera has an instant guide to exposure.
Today we can take pictures instantly with digital cameras (some so small they fit in a pocket), video cameras, and even on our phones just to name a few.
