Crafts For St. Patrick's Day

Looking for a fun and easy St. Patrick's Day craft you can do with your kids? How about a homemade shamrock stamp? Using a small heart-shaped cookie cutter, press it deeply into the cut face of half a potato. With the cookie cutter still in place, cut away the potato around the heart shape, leaving a raised surface in the center. Remove the cookie cutter and dip the heart shape into green acrylic paint. Press the shape onto paper napkins, tablecloths or whatever paper item you desire, making clusters of three or four hearts with the pointy tips touching to form shamrocks. Use a paintbrush to swirl stems on your shamrocks.

Make a rainbow that leads to the leprechaun's pot of gold with paper streamers or wide ribbon in primary colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple - cut into 18 inch lengths and glued to the bottom rim of a paper plate with the center cut out. Punch a small hole in the top and thread some ribbon through it and tie it. Hang it where it will catch the light or a breeze for a cheerful St. Paddy's Day touch.

For older kids, use a hot glue gun to glue three green foam hearts into a shamrock shape. Glue a two-inch piece of green pipe cleaner to the back for a stem. Decorate the front of the shamrock with a green button, some Pom-Poms and sequins or whatever other decorative touch you choose. You could turn these attractive little accents into refrigerator magnets by hot gluing a magnet to the back of the shamrock.
