I don’t know about you, but I receive a lot of calls from unknown numbers. Usually I’ll assume the call is from a telemarketer and just ignore and forget about it. Recently I received a very disturbing voicemail from an unknown number. The caller used my name, Stephanie, and talked as if he knew me. He said that he was returning my call. He babbled on and became increasing incoherent then eventually screamed out an expletive. I did not recall making any calls to unknown men, and quite frankly, the call scared me. I wanted to know who it was from, but did not want to call the man back. This is when I first discovered reverse phone directory. Follow these steps to perform a reverse phone look up yourself:
- Step 1: Go to a directory you found
- Step 2: Type the phone number you want to look up into the search box. Click “find”.
- Step 3: If the person called from a landline phone, white pages may be able to give you the name, address, and even the age of the caller. If the person called from a cell phone, white pages may not have that information. If the call was from a cell phone white pages will tell you the location associated with the area code.
- Step 4: If you would still like to find the name of the person, you will receive the option to pay $1.99 and white pages will text you the name of the person. (This is what I had to do).
If the name is found, it will be texted to you and $1.99 will be charged to your phone bill. If the name isn’t found, you will not be charged.Once you have identified the caller, it is up to you to decide what you want to do with that information. I did not recognize the name of my caller and decided not to do anything about it. A few weeks later I was having lunch with a friend and told her the story, along with the caller’s name. It turns out the caller was my friend’s uncle! My friend’s uncle with mental health issues had her old phone with the contacts still in it. Mystery solved!
